The NSW Government Data Centre Reform (DCR) Project team has been working with NSW Departments and Agencies to resolve the State’s data centre issues and provide opportunities to improve whole of government ICT infrastructure management. A solution was determined to relocate this dispersed data centre infrastructure into two high quality fit-for-purpose leased facilities.
One of the roles of the DCR Project is to support the agencies through this substantial activity, and capitalise on these opportunities. To support the agencies, the DCR Project team established a panel of expertise sourced from suppliers, including BSR Solutions, of migration services who are already qualified to do business with government through schemes such as Contract 2020 or the Prequalification Scheme for Performance and Management Services. These suppliers are available to assist the NSW Government Agencies and any other related government bodies who seek external support for their data centre migration activities.
The migration of NSW Government Agencies into the new facilities is a substantial activity. Not only does this involve many significant risks at the NSW Government Agency and whole of Government level, but there are also a number of opportunities to be capitalised on through this process. The two anchor tenants who have committed to migrate into the new facilities will migrate 3,000kW of data centre demand. The total data centre usage across NSW government is estimated at 8,000kW. There will be a range of migrations, relocating anywhere between 3 and 300 racks of equipment and involving some 50 separate agencies.
