The current ICT Strategic Plan for DECCW was developed in 2007 and the Department considered that current circumstances and changes in the NSW Government sector required the preparation of a Plan which highlighted:
- The achievements delivered by the current plan over its 3 year life;
- Continuing changes and advances in technology and associated service delivery channels;
- The substantial changes in NSW Government, including the creation of 13 new ‘super agencies’ and ongoing reforms in shared corporate services delivery; and
- Continuing advancements in the science surrounding the analysis and reporting of climate change and the environment.
Initial efforts were focused on determining a broad vision for the use of ICT within DECCW, considering a range of internal and external business and legislative drivers. Focus groups were used to consider the future state of information technology to be employed by DECCW to deliver its mandate, a comparison of DECCW to its peers in other Australian jurisdictions, the perceived gaps in capability and capacity to achieve the future state and the roadmap required to get there (resources, technology, investment, etc.).
The resulting ICT Strategic Vision and Roadmap was written from a business perspective, and focused on ICT investment and programs required to deliver business outcomes. It was endorsed by the Executive group.
